Kowel's Voice (2014) Synopsis :

Kowels Voice is an original story representing the events that took place in Kowel, Poland, during the German occupation in 1941-1942. We use the original spelling of Kowel, which is now a part of the Ukraine, and is spelled Kovel.

The story itself does have a sound basis in fact, as two of the main characters were in fact real people. Arwed Kempf was the leading German civilian officer, who was executed, by the Germans, for not placing the Jewish people in the Ghettos, as ordered in September of 1941. He chose to side against his own people, and paid the ultimate price for his principles. And, Wilik Pomeranz did in fact lead the first Jewish Judenrat, established in Kowel, by the Germans.

Now, to whatever extent the film is factual, its main purpose is to draw attention to what did in fact happen to the Jewish people, in Kowel, under the German occupation. Story: The Germans arrive in Kowel, Poland in June of 1941, and from that point on, there is next to no escape for the Jewish people. We follow two young, Jewish girls, desperate attempts to save family, and each other, in the midst of a hopeless situation. They find strength, in each other, and in those willing to risk all to save them. Yet, in the end, we see that ultimate sacrifice, isn't always enough to overcome ultimate evil.
